We are launching an international project for extracurricular education. What does “learning” and “teaching” look like around the world?

Gathering knowledge – shareing knowledge! We provide new impetus for a vibrant, transcultural educational landscape and test skills and competencies for the future. WELTSCHULHAUS is an experimental educational initiative by S27 in collaboration with many younger and older international people who have arrived in Berlin in the wake of global crises. At WELTSCHULHAUS, we also network with partner organizations worldwide. Based on the shortcoming that the global knowledge of immigrants and refugees, as well as ideas from established migrant communities, are hardly included in local curricula and educational planning, we are working on “field research” in the extracurricular sector and testing experimental forms of knowledge exchange with numerous actors from Germany and abroad.

You can reach us by phone at: (030) 617 767 315
You’ll find us at S27 Kunst und Bildung
Schlesische Str. 27B in Berlin-Kreuzberg.

Our STUDYDESKS offer a wide variety of teaching content in Arabic, Farsi, French, and Kurdish. Many people who come to us in search of a new home are denied access to knowledge due to a rigid education system.
Instead of focusing on their lack of German language skills, we want to give our TRAINEES the opportunity to learn in their native language while acquiring German. This opportunity is available at our diverse STUDYDESKS. From mathematics and computer courses to boxing or acting, we provide our TRAINEES with support and structure and help them expand their knowledge with varied and flexible learning groups.
Our fantastic COMMUNITY TEACHERS, often older academics with refugee history, design the courses themselves and pass on their in-depth knowledge to the younger generation. Our TRAINEES always contribute their own knowledge and wishes to our curriculum.
It’s a great opportunity to exchange ideas in your native language and help each other!

Academy

Refugees and immigrants—teachers, scientists, and experts from various disciplines who face structural barriers to entering the job market—have joined forces in this initiative and organized their own small academy. They invite guests and share their knowledge and experiences with the audience in open lectures.

As part of the ACADEMY, all community teachers come together for focused training courses, which are self-organized and conducted with invited experts. There are always cross-connections and creative interpretations of the phenomenon of “Volkshochschule” (adult education centers).
