Shaping the city together

Together with Prinzessinnengärten and raumlabor  berlin, we are involved in shaping the diverse transformation processes that are taking place on the extensive cemetery grounds west of Hermannstraße.

Cemetery operations have been discontinued for some time on various parts of the site, and areas have been opened up for new tasks that place the requirements of the social city at the centre. Educational gardens and creative interventions organised by the cooperation partners together with people from the neighbourhood, new arrivals and refugees provide tangible support for participatory processes in the neighbourhood. In this way, visions of coexistence can be developed together and local changes can be mapped out.

Since 2014, S27 teams have been working on the back field of the Jerusalem V cemetery together with local residents, schoolchildren, young people and students. Associations and initiatives from the neighbourhood have gained a foothold. Young and old come together to garden, create and share knowledge. The experimental landscape garden has the look of a creative meeting place.

The site also holds important historical and contemporary evidence: the foundation walls of a forced labour camp, the signal towers of the former Tempelhof Airport, the chapel of the Bulgarian Orthodox community.

Paths and stations have been created step by step over the past year, depicting the event(s).
