What does “learning” and “teaching” look like around the world?

We are launching an international educational project. Young and older people who have arrived in Berlin in the wake of global crises are working within the S27 to foster a vibrant, transcultural educational landscape for the future.
The collective knowledge of Berliners from all over the world and from migrant communities is still far too rarely incorporated into local curricula and educational planning. We are remedying this situation and launching a ‘field study’ on knowledge exchange – with partner organisations worldwide and, quite specifically, right here on the ground!

Education in the Native Languages

Every afternoon, we get together at our study tables where our community teachers offer free basic courses and tutoring in various mother tongues!

Many people seeking a new home here are denied access to knowledge because of a rigid education system.
Instead of focusing on a lack of German language skills, we want to give our trainees the chance to learn in their mother tongue whilst acquiring the language. This opportunity is available in our diverse learning groups. From maths and computer courses to boxing or drama – we provide our trainees with support and structure and help them expand their knowledge through varied and flexible learning groups.
Our fantastic COMMUNITY TEACHERS, often older academics with experience of fleeing their home countries, design the courses themselves and pass on their in-depth knowledge to the younger generation. A great opportunity to exchange ideas in mother tongue and help one another!
