Children and young people compile the lexicon of Berlin life (“Berliner Lexikon der Stadtgesellschaft”).

We live in times where more and more people from all over the world are coming to Berlin and bringing a wealth of new experiences and knowledge with them, so we have to ask ourselves: what is there to know? Children and youngsters alike seize the moment and start asking old and new Berliners.

What do we know? What do we want to learn? What is it important to know?  A team of young people surveyed people at flea markets, football stadiums, parks, train stations and on shopping streets. Eight school classes each spent a week in their local libraries looking for the city’s hidden knowledge.

AFrom their results – objects, written texts, films, items they found, installations and performances – they created the “lexicon of Berlin life”, a walk-in cabinet of curiosities inside a “Cloud of Knowledge” which was presented in September 2018 as part of the Next Library Conference Berlin.

Run time: October 2017 to September 2018
