A tent is a journey and an arrival, adventure and security, temporary shelter. A tent is a refuge. Young refugees from the refugium of our Bildungsmanufaktur (“educational factory”) invite you into their shadow tent “Schattenzelt”.

Instead of being used as a projection screen for social discourses, the young people let their own stories and desires dance in the tent’s canopy.

Many of them come from countries where hospitality plays a major cultural role. A space of their own is created, self-designed and finally shared – everyone is invited to tea, snacks, conversation and shadow play.

Friday 28 April | 2 pm | S27 Courtyard

The shadow tent is part of our Shadow Census project. Parallel to the census survey, various groups at our house are dealing with their living conditions in Germany. They throw a spotlight on everyday experiences, on exclusion and the “shadowiness” of what they experience, which is often difficult to put into words and escapes the coarse-meshed census.

“Schattenzensus” is funded by Fonds Soziokultur.
The “refugium LERNWERKSTÄTTEN” run on behalf of the Senatsverwaltung für Bildung, Jugend und Familie.
