In the world of art a local colour (“Lokalfarbe”) is an object’s natural, unmodified, consistent colour. Based on the idea of ‚local colours‘, participants research, collect and chart the colour tones of various social spaces, and create colour essences from their findings. They conduct both analogue and digital experiments in the workshops and when researching the rooms. The most important tool they need to bring on the expedition is their illustrating skills. The entire research process is documented in sketches and storyboard diagrams.

Students of the Kunsthochschule Weißensee art school and international young people who have fled home and are now working on projects in the BILDUNGSMANUFAKTUR open workshops at S27 in Kreuzberg meet up over several weeks to take a closer look at the material, physical and social phenomenon that is colour. Their findings and ideas are then creatively implemented as they create a real-life FARBLADEN (‚colour store‘) as an installation and performance space for the Wrangelkiez neighbourhood in Kreuzberg – an old shop on Schlesische Straße converted into a centre for colour research!
