Programme:
14:00-16:00 | “Where does my trash belong” – plastic recycling workshop by S27
14:00-16:30 | “Dirty food movement” – Culinary performance by Nettles and Poppies
16:30-17:30 | Film screening “Martha” – documentary film by Jürgen Böttcher

Between the end of the Second World War and the collapse of the GDR, new building material for the reconstruction of socialist Germany was extracted from the rubble of demolished houses on a site in the Lichtenberg district.
With the unification of East and West Germany, the site was decommissioned and it turned into one of Berlin’s many wastelands.

1978
In his documentary film of the same name, DEFA director Jürgen Böttcher tells the story of the rubble woman Martha Bieder, who was achieving fame as the only woman among workers on the site.

2023
The now overgrown and littered area becomes a creative building site, a place for assembly, debate and experimentation, taking into account the local flora and fauna.

Let’s look into the past together and try things out in the present!
